German men

Situated in the centre of northern Europe, and becoming unified in 1989, Germany is bordered by nine other countries: France, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The population has increased rapidly during the past century, and, because of the open-minded, positive approach to life, the country has largely accepted a multicultural society. As with most countries, the majority of inhabitants tend to live and work in major cities, such as Berlin, Bonn, Munich and Hamburg, with a wide population spread through the smaller towns and the farming community.

It is well known that Germans like their food, and while nearly everyone starts the day with a cup of coffee, German men also like to breakfast on bread, eggs and sausages. Food quality tends to depend on social class, but with the advent of cheap, fast food - from the classic bratwurst and pizza to the kebab and Asian specialities – there is something for everyone. The Germans also have a liking for alcohol, particularly beer, schnapps and brandy, and though most German guys enjoy a beer when socialising with their mates after work, they are not alcoholics. Having said this, one only has to think of the great beer festivals, such as Octoberfest, in order to conjure up visions of waiters and waitresses ferrying frothily-filled large glasses called ‘steins’ from pump to eager participant.

Cool, calm and pretty sophisticated, the Germans are not all that different from their French neighbours. Again, like France, Germany is a large country and there are subtle differences between people from the north and those from the south. Efficient and precise about everything he does, your handsome contact will expect an equal standing in any relationship. Well-educated and able to speak excellent English, he’ll be great at helping with those daily decisions that are so important in the running of a smooth relationship. Most German guys are fortunate enough to have a good job and a good salary, two important ingredients which give stability and strength to any partnership.

What are the characteristics of a typical German male?

Coming from a northern European country, the typical German male is reputed to be cold and fairly insensitive. But can this be true? While you may discern a certain coolness at the first hello, as the minutes tick by and the barriers melt away your contact will gradually open up to you and give you an insight to his warm, friendly personality. Occasionally, your German hero will be a little hesitant about taking the first steps. This is generally because he’s thinking too much about all the maybe’s – it’s a cultural thing that goes back a few hundred years. However, when he starts listening to his heart and finally makes his move, you can be certain he’ll know what to do. The sensitivity and initial shyness inherent in some of these gorgeous guys is often rather sweet and attractive to women from other more macho countries. One more thing: do not be late, never, ever. Germans don’t hold with the idea of a ten minute wait. Tardiness is a sin that has no excuse.

How to date a German guy

  1. German boys don’t like to flirt. If you’re looking for a rowdy guy who flirts outrageously, then think about checking out men from another European country or perhaps someone from a different culture. Unlike males from several other countries, German men aren’t really into ‘the hunt’. So, if you like the look of him go and talk to him, introduce yourself, open a channel of communication and initiate a date. If you don’t make the move, it’s on the cards that nothing will happen.
  2. German guys need time. When approaching your man, be as pleasant as possible and strike up a friendly conversation. Don’t be disappointed if at first he seems a bit aloof, this is fairly normal and pretty common among German men. He’s not going to declare undying love or trouble his face with smiley smiles in the first few seconds or minutes of your date. Embark on a friendly conversation and talk about anything to give him the time he needs to communicate with his heart.
  3. Be ready and aware that he may be a hard worker. Germany is the land of ‘efficiency’, and many Germans have the idea that work comes before pleasure. They leave the office, come home, open up the laptop and settle down to a few more hours of work. Yep – maybe it’s a good thing in that your man will be a good provider, but don’t lose sight of the fact that ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. So when this happens it’ll be up to you to create a romantic mood, to come up with a special something that will persuade him to pull the plug and close the laptop!
  4. Accept his rules. People from Germany are nuts about rules for everything. It’s to do with their identity and their demand for the highest standards. Although this can be difficult to understand and sometimes impossible to live with, it’s best to go with the flow and accept the eccentricities. And, it is possible to derive some comfort from all this stuff. At least, should things go wrong, your man will be ahead of the situation and know exactly what to do in order to resolve the problem. Remember: an efficient ship is a happy ship. Just sit back, relax, and let him do all the running about.
  5. Take good care of yourself, your looks and your style. German men like to have a well dressed woman at their side. People from Germany always take great care about their grooming, and expect the same attention to detail from their partner. No, it’s not necessary to prance about in the latest ridiculous fashions, but you should aim to always look your natural best.
  6. They don’t go in for flirting, they’re looking for something deeper, something longer lasting, an inner beauty rather than external attributes. Maybe it comes from the fact that most of the world’s greatest philosophers were German, but it seems that people from this country are pretty much fixated on what goes on in the mind. Most German men understand that beauty is ephemeral and, like a flower, will one day pass away. So, when looking for love, they are actually searching for that one special person with whom to spend their life. There has to be a strong connection, otherwise, no matter how beautiful and sexy the woman, it’s unlikely that any relationship will blossom.

Germans are a rare breed. Typically perfectionists they expect their partner, indeed anyone they come into contact with, to be the same. This tends to mean that if you do something that seems out of kilter or not quite right, your German guy will be certain to let you know. It’s all about keeping ‘clean air’ between two people, and conversation is the all-important factor when it comes to maintaining a healthy relationship. If an equal partnership is your thing, then Germany should definitely be high on your list.

The definitions of a relationship with a German man:

If dating a German, you should be aware that there are no formal relationship titles that seem common in other parts of the world. So if you need to know the status of your relationship, here are a few hints and tips that should enable you to discover just where you stand:

  • Dinners - when he invites you for dinner three times or more, it means you are definitely dating.
  • Sleeping together, or making love more than five times - means you are probably in a relationship. However, if he says he doesn’t want anything serious, you should accept it.
  • If you relocate and start living together – there’s a strong interest for the future and you’re definitely in a serious relationship. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean a wedding will be proposed next week, but you can be sure you have an important place in his life.
  • Marriage. When he makes his marriage proposal, it might be the first serious talk in your relationship!

German men are unique and follow a very modern lifestyle little bit different than Italian men. They have excellent knowledge of how to use the Internet and daily accessing all the social activities posted on Face Book and Twitter. This said, they actually prefer reality to the maybe’s of the electronic jungle, and would far rather be in a loving relationship instead of posting information on the Web. In that they like to live in a serious partnership without problems, males and females are the same wherever they may come from. They love their nationality, they love to spend time with their friends, and are genuinely interested in meeting people from other culture.

If you want to find a serious partner, then the German male is probably the best choice you can make.

And if you are not sure about dating German men? You can try other nationalities, such as French, Greek, Indian or any others: more than one million people search for love every day! So, just keep searching and your lucky star will find you when it’s the right time. Smart people know that, for each of us, there is always someone with whom to share life’s happy moments.
